North wind

Blowing straight at us turning the sky strangely milky. Bright sun. Bit of a dilemma as to where to go but we plumped for the Etang Salé reserve near Châteauneuf. only 15 minutes or so away. There was a lot of water in the étang and even mini waves rippling the surface.

Not many birds visible - a moorhen, some mallards, kites and swallows.

Frogs were croaking and tadpoles swimming in their thousands.

It was a brisk walk round and a brief stop in the hide, then we managed to find shelter in the vines.

All neatly labelled with their variety. Some surprising ones like Picpoul and Clairette.

The domaine is called Le Clos de l’Oratoire du Pape and it was originally a 16th Century Priory, restored in 2015 with impeccable rows of vines overlooking the reed beds. A lovely spot.

By now it was midday. White van man had parked up for his lunch. We weren’t really hungry but fancied a sit and a drink so tootled off to Caderousse. Of course temptation proved too much and we fell into La Providence. Only  intending to have the plat du jour but ending up consuming the full three courses! The street has been reconfigured so there is now a paved area in front of the restaurants instead of on the other side of the road. Much more sensible.
