We awoke to a dark sky this morning, a huge change from the bright starts up to now. And somewhat heavy of stomach again. Last night was Michelin award winning cassoulet and the attendant amuse-bouches, sweetmeats and wine! Probably unwise to scoff so heartily two nights in a row.

But the Auberge is a nice place with attentive and not at all stuffy staff. And plenty of folk dining there. Comfy room too.

This morning we could see the bank of black heading our way and by the time we got down to the main road the rain had started. It just got worse and worse, a positively Biblical deluge that went on all the way round Carcassonne. Really quite scary driving. We managed to find an open café and had excellent coffees - no croissants though, we were just too stuffed from last night. No lunch either!
However once into the dreary Minervois the storm had petered out and we watched it sit like a leaden shroud behind us. Got onto the A9 at Béziers and we were home by 12.30. Still sunny here but the sky was looking troubled. Just been out for basics at Tulette and hot chocolate in Ste Cécile. The rain is sort of drifting down but not so bad yet.
The colours everywhere are wonderful. Round Revel the woods were orange, fiery against the black sky. The vines are all dark red or yellow and the roses on the row ends full of lovely blooms, often a dark pink.
So all seems well. Don’t panic if I go quiet for a bit - it’s going to be routine stuff and trips to the tip! But I will break radio silence if anything interesting crops up.
