Moon shots

 Et ça continue….

Tuesday evening we went next door to the relative cool of Barbara and Pascal)s garden and had a lovely couple of hours, finally meeting the Canadian residents of the pink house at the top of the Montée! We knew Robert’s late parents but somehow have never met him and wife Pearl. Both lawyers and bilingual so the evening was relaxed for all monoglots.

Wednesday was Malaucène with Kaisers. Once again we got them up early poor things but really you have to get there before heat. Returned via Suzette for views then retreated behind the shutters. Sablet had a wine event in the evening so the streets were crowded with people coming in mob handed from the surroundings to enjoy. A rock band belted out old favourites including Summertime Blues and Satisfaction (can’t get no). Cars came and went. We watched from our windows but didn’t venture out! Eventually, The Moon appeared above the Dentelles, and was duly snapped.

What’s today? Oh yes, Thursday. And 14 July so a holiday. up again early and out by 7.30 for what we hoped would be a walk to St Hilaire. But doubts began as we got up the hill behind. There were no entry notices on roads and paths and upon closer inspection these proved to be Access Interdit signs. The whole of the Dentelles Massif is off limits for duration because of severe fire risk. So we resigned ourself to walking along the road and back through a vineyard. Most pleasant, long views, birds, cicadas.

I watched a hoopoe bob from tree to tree and get lost in the vines. Adrian rescued a cicada from my back - it gave a cheery rattle as it flew away. We really didn’t want to go back but it was starting to heat up. Compromise - a coffee at the Bar du Siècle under the trees and out of the sun. Place was pretty full already with people having the same thought but there was a table for two with our name on it!

And now we are in our blue canvas chairs on the terrace in the shade so all is not too bad…yet!

Stop Press 7 pm. A murky sky and strong smell of smoke. Neighbour Nicole sent these images from the motorway near Avignon.
