Rasteau

Having vacuumed the middle floor I was ready for the Sunday Stroll in warm sunshine and windless air. Off we drove to Rasteau. A shaft of sun had been illuminating the village all morning, calling to us from across the valley. But when we got there, oh dear. No parking. Rasteau too was having the annual breast cancer event. Pink umbrellas were the decoration of choice here as usual and they were having a giant Aligot feast in the square - 20 euros a pop.

So instead we headed out round the back of the hill and through Roaix to another lovely viewpoint and a short walk up the lane into pebble strewn vines. I admit I took fright at the distant sight of an orange hi viz vest - it IS Sunday after all - and returned down the hill before Adrian.

Into Rasteau the back way, where we parked and walked down to the bar for the usual. Then watched the happy throng tuck into their barbecued Toulouse sausage and mash. Not any old mash though… Aligot has to be my absolute favourite - potatoes, creme fraîche, cantal cheese, garlic. See the man making it in his cauldron. That’s the way to do it!
