Another warm sunny and windless day... so after watching the men bring cots and equipment to the new crèche from my vantage point on the terrace we walked out towards Gigondas.
I noticed local radio were here too. Great excitement, the transfer of a crèche!
The south side of Sablet has a wooded enclave of large houses and leafy lanes so we cut through them onto the main road then down a track leading to one of the many domaines. Great views as always.
Vines a plenty, still dark and dormant. But everything else is springing into action. Even the Judas trees by the Tilleuil d’Or are out.
So good to be out in the sun without flinching from the wind, and in trainers instead of boots.
Sablet is fringed with blossom and olive trees and there are qute a few very pleasant walks round its flanks. Buzzy little day too with market and the terrace of the bar packed with diners. No room for us by the time we returned two hours later. So we purchased a couple of fougasse aux gratelons (duck scrapings!) and settled back on our own terrace.
I’m off to stretch out on the parapet to try to unbleach my winter skin! Can’t go out in shorts yet - might frighten the horses. Darling Starling doesn’t mind. He’s perched atop the cypress practising his repertoire. Fascinated by the focussing ping of my camera.
Oh dear, poor Sophie across the road is trying manfully to mow the weed patch that passes for a lawn. The grass is too high and the mower keeps getting stuck. She’s getting cross! I feel like calling over ‘raise the blades’ but you don’t do that sort of thing in France.
