We needed to go to Bédoin for tartes and fine wines to feed tomorrow’s guests. It’s a lovely day and Ventoux was strutting his stuff as we approached from the south. A quick pop into the Coopérative, neatly avoiding tractors and trailers of grapes, for a bidon of AOC Ventoux Rouge at a mere 2€ per litre. Yes they still dispense from the pump! And it is one of the best wines around. Then to the carpark…eek! Already into the overspill field. Half the population of Benelux was already here. I scuttled ahead weaving through the throng to get to the tarte lady before she’d sold out. Whew…supplies still available and duly purchased. We could relax.
As we didn’t relish trudging up the street we slipped back to a little café restaurant we know hidden away behind a hedge and where coffees are good. Buying breakfast goods from a stall on the way. After we’d got the coffee, the serveuse came back with a saucer of black grapes for us. What a nice gesture,
Return via Vaison for more funds. I am hoping the pound might be recovering from the shock of Truss and Kwarteng Inc. because I need to transfer replacement lucre soon.
Too nice to stay home so after what passes for lunch (toast and yoghurt) we set off again just a little way to Roaix and explored the old village and lower vines before heading up to our vantage point under the pylon. I was a bit spooked by the sound of gunfire but we concluded it was too regular to be hunters so probably people just practising!
And then off to Villedieu for a drink. As we walked up to the square we heard the sound of chatter and mirth and came upon a group of lycra clad folk not exactly ancient but not in the first flush of youth either.
To one side under the trees was their support vehicle… Peak Tours from Derbyshire! We’ve seen more English registrations this trip than for many years.
