Feeling flush

It was a wet night and the clouds were down, veiling the hills quite picturesquely. As we were a bit jaded from early waking it was 10 am before we finally ventured out for supplies. Still cloudy, but dry now, and everything looking fresh and green. Destination Tulette…First off, Comptoir de Mathilde for packs of caramels au beurre salé . The carpark was empty ! But they were open and bedecked with Easter goodies and by the time we left, the punters were heading in.

Confectionery obtained, it was stop 2 - Intermarché. For milk and cheese and biscuits. And then into town for a coffee. Well Monday is market day here - not huge but enough. A stall selling leeks the circumference of drainpipes, a man cooking delicious smelling sausages almost as big, fruits various, wonderful cheese stall - blast ! I had just bought some… There are a few cafés in the square and sensibly equipped with awnings so we plonked ourselves under one and ordered. Then just watched the world go by. All very ordinary really.

Homewards via Le Plan de Dieu just for a potter. It is an amazing space. So vast, stoney and flat with hills all around. And covered in geometric rows of black-stemmed vines tipped with newly emerging bright green leaves. Huge skies. We parked by the American Airmen Memorial and walked up and down the puddled road for a while just looking.

Spoke to Adam at 4 - he’ll be here on Sunday. Then at quarter to five the phone rings. It’s the men from Brando’s again. They are coming to actually replace the faulty loo flush! And so they do, hooray. I wonder just when I will get the bill for the initial call out last October?
