Open all hours

…or not! We often see these contradictory opening times.

Anyway this one was spotted in the hilltop village of Saumane, above Fontaines de Vaucluse and birthplace of the Marquis de Sade.

The café looked very enticing as did the plat du jour (poulet normande avec tagliatelles et salade) but despite the delicious aromas emanating therefrom we decided we’d had enough poulet for one week!

Fabulous views from the castle walls and woods full of strawberry trees surrounding it.

The countryside up here on the plateau is quite different from our end with dry stone walls and buildings set among open woodlands mostly of Mediterranean oak.

Pretty fishes in the village lavoir.

Once back in Sablet we sat in the sun at the bar and had coffee and drinks and bits of savoury pastry from Mme Moulin.
