Despite the fierce wind it is bright and quite warm today. Nevertheless I togged up with two jumpers a hooded fleece and lined waterproof for our foray to the banks of the Rhône. You can never be sure! Getting out of the car on the Plan de Dieu to take photos was a feat in itself - the wind was howling through the roof bars like a banshee.
Valient little wine tractors pulling trailers brim full of grapes teetered along towards their Caves, and there were heaps of squashed skins piled up in the yard of the distillery waiting to be turned into industrial alcohol or vinegar.
We got to the appointed walking place by a circuitous route through the fertile lost lands between motorway and river and parked by the TGV bridges as usual.
Lovely as always and the wind was warm. Overdressed! Well at least when I did my power walk back along the tree lined track
somewhat uneasy to be alone in a scream muffling gale.
We saw no river craft but plenty of fast trains, a heron who kept escaping me and his pal the cormorant. Adrian spotted a frog and green woodpecker.
And then back via Ste C where we sat outside under the roaring plane trees much to the disbelief of our dear lady servers at the bar and had drinks and two planchas of charcuterie and cheese. A bargain at €7.50 each.
Back home I found, or rather heard, our doorbell buzzing deleriously and entered to the smell of burning wires! Someone had been a bit heavy handed…I suspect Liz. We are invited for supper so I will grill her.
And we are sans front door volets for four days because one is being repaired prior to repainting. Mr Boukersanna brought his carpenter friend round last night to inspect them and he just lifted one off its hinges and left with it over his shoulder. So we are having to close the thick curtains and pretend we are locked up securely.
