Settling in

Well trying to. I am feeling very weepy. We went over to Sablet yesterday afternoon/evening to Kaisers (with the addition of Liz and Keith) for tea followed by pizzas. Amazingly G and J had never had pizzas before! Apparently our little house remains all shuttered up.

Today it was fun and games at Banque Postale in Vaison. The lady let us have €1500 from the Livret A and I took a further €500 from the machine. That leaves  600 in Livret A and 200 in current a/c which I’ll try to shunt across next week and empty the lot then request closure. It is b***** complicated because we have to prove residence in UK and only originals with address are accepted - not driving licence for some reason! Photos no go. I’ll try to use the app for North Devon in front of herđŸ˜±.

So then it was Brandos for rubbish bags and tea towels. Rubbish bags for UK because we can’t find the correct size for the kitchen bin we bought here! The lady went to the shelf, took down a roll and then cut it open so she could measure them against the sample we produced! No fussing. It matched so we bought two. Should last a year. Tea towel was because we cannot find any in the rental property…. more of which anon.

By now I was feeling very sad. We were home but not home. All familiar, but we no longer belong. Time for coffee in Puyméras. Via the Coop for BIBS - 2 x 5 litres for now. Good coffee, refreshing apricot juice.

Sandwiches for lunch on our terrace.

Now the house. Well, a bit of a Curate’s Egg. Quirky.

Plus points: comfy beds, nice terrace, good TV (watched the final of Sewing Bee last night), masses of crockery and kitchen stuff. Good washing machine. Plenty of bedding. Lots of books.

Minus points: Utterly cluttered. Buddhas, plastic flowers and far eastern memorabilia everywhere. No tea towels. *No bathroom as such - old fashioned bath with shower attachment, falling off the wall of course, actually in the double bedroom! Only one old fashioned loo and a cramped old fashioned tiny shower with plastic curtain on ground floor down an open tread staircase. No spare towels or supply of loo rolls.

This was a rude reminder of why we stopped renting … other people’s houses.

But Villedieu is lovely, we have the cafĂ© and square. Just as well as the cooker is an induction hob so we cannot use our Moka coffee pot…aagh.

*I don’t think ‘en suite’ means actually in the room but rather accessible directly from it. Maybe that’s just me.
