Brave New World

Thunder last night and a bit of rain, so today was nice and cool - only 24. I needed a cardi! A day for the Rhône. We arrived and to our amazement there was a Dutch river cruiser at the Halte Fluviale and, even worse, people walking down the river bank. So we pressed on and drove to our other stop by the château. Shock horror - the whole place had been ‘aménagé’ with a tarmac cycle track and yellow barriers. Awful.

And family groups🙀pedalling along. We knew this was coming because in the autumn we’d seen evidence of leisure management up by Mornas. It’s a cycle track called Via Rhôna all down the river. But oh dear…the end of our secret unspoiled wildness.

However there is still the digue higher up and away from organised activity and at least that keeps the cyclists at bay. My herons are largely undisturbed, as are the kites and cacklng frogs.

Walk over, we moved to Caderousse for a drink and found it had a market going on. Quite a jolly one in fact. And bunting strung up for tomorrow’s 14 July celebrations.

Half way home it dawned on us that we needed milk. Only supermarkets sell proper fresh lait entier so it was a choice between Vaison and Tulette Intermarchés. The latter won out despite being about three times as far because we wanted to avoid  the Tuesday market traffic in Vaison. Perverse eh!

We had thought of going to the wine soirée in the square this evening but then we saw the hordes of the Great Unwashed and their young offspring traipsing up and thought better of it! Not that perfectly lovely folk won’t also be there, but well, you know…
