Sablet

Last leg of the journey and we were away from Cahors at 7.30. We decided to give Limogne en Quercy another chance for breakfast and were not disappointed. The ghastly boulangerie with inedible croissants has changed hands and now offers confectionery delights and butter croissants. The bar is welcoming and good coffee was served. Result! Most pleasant sitting on the terrace watching the world trundle by.

We were over the Millau Viaduct by 10.30 where thoughts turned to lunch. Should we head to Marseillan or give it a miss? I remembered an inn Miranda. Not in the high Pyrenees but just in the hills above Lodève. We went there once many years ago…perhaps it was still there? So we left the motorway at Le Caylar and followed a lovely road down through the ominously named Cirque du bout du monde. Heard our first cicadas, saw butterflies and, more importantly,  avoided the white knuckle switchback of the motorway as it descends from the plateau.

Soubès appeared, the bar was still there and thriving. We had the plat du jour 10 euros…cuttlefish rouille for him and pork steak in mustard and truffle sauce for me. Rather a lot of settled retired English folk but they were all thoroughly integrated with the personel and post lady so no trouble! Jolly nice.

Then the final trek down A9 to Orange and home. The house was clean and dry, no horrors except the satellite dish, broken again.  And no sign of Mr Fernandes having done any work! Unpacked, found a mystery pair of trousers in the wardrobe that I eventually worked out I had ordered and never worn (what’s new?!). And then up to Kaiserhof for drinks and light supper.

Sablet is mostly quiet except for the bar where folk were watching some football match. Tomorrow - market and satellite repair shop.
