Journée 2

Apparently Mme Royal was a bit iffy. According to our Parisiennes she was ‘superficial’. So, glad we didn’t go.

Two Soupes !
We are invited across the rue tonight for a farewell drink with the aforementioned from Paris, as they go back on Tuesday. You see this is why we come at this time of year. If we didn’t, we’d never see them, and others. It’s a dilemma. Many of our acquaintance are getting aircon installed but .....well you can guess. It’s expensive for just a few weeks’ use, although it does double up as heating in winter.

Another dilemma. What is the etiquette?!
‘Dear Miss Manners, my local French shop is advertising Chilled wine, but they have translated Fraîche literally as Fresh. Should I  barge in with my two penn’orth and risk insulting them, or avert my gaze as I pass the offending sign? Yours in confusion...a Pedant.’

Early morning breakfast on the cool of the terrace gazing over the hills and villages. The pelargoniums are on the point of flowering! Will they make it by next Sunday? Then a long march in the heat round the bottom  of the village, seeking shade where possible. Not a lot of it. At 11 we slumped onto chairs in the lee of Mme Moulin’s bakery where she has set up a pop up café. Her youngest daughter and one of her granddaughters were serving. Really good coffee. In fact she’s got the whole family working over the weekend and the place was buzzing inside. The woman’s a human calculator! One of the drafted in assistants just called out what she was serving and Mme M totted it up instantly. Phenomenal memory for the price of each item!
And now...l’après-midi d’un Tour.
