Lavender

Monday.Seemingly a little cooler. A trip north to beyond Buis in search of lavender fields. Sky a bit milky still after our stormy weekend but it soon cleared. These are the roads the Tour will be coming along on 24th. As we bumped through Buis on the rutted surface we feared for their comfort! We got to the edge overlooking Ste Jalle and there they were stretching down before us...lavender as far as the eye could see.

Alive with butterflies and day flying moths, bees and hoverflies.

Down the valley past apricot trees laden with orange fruit, and up the other side to a small village called Le Poët Sigallet, stone houses and a chapel and a lavoir with book deposit box containing inter alia Cold Comfort Farm in French! I really should have kept it.

It was hot now and the chapel a welcome sanctuary of cool with its stark white walls and bare interior.

Finally we climbed ever higher to the top of the hills behind Remuzat - home of vultures. We came here in autumn when the lavender had been cut.

Today it was all rows of glorious purple tumbling down opposite the big rocky mountains opposite. And after some time gazing and admiring we set off down again back to Buis for pizza. On the way we saw the vast shadow of a vulture against the cliff face. Looking up there was a wonderful pale Egyptian soaring over the gorges.

Good Pizza under the trees.

More lavender...even more on Google Album!
